Alliance for Children's Entitlement to Social Security
PROGRAMMES      LOBBYING      WORKSHOPS      ADVOCACY

Project implementation focuses on capacity building that enables members to participate in coordinated awareness raising and advocacy campaigns. These campaigns are designed to build social security literacy and persuade decision-makers to commit to or adopt ACESS’s policy choices and recommendations.

ACESS’s strength lies in the unity of its member organisations, and the voices behind those organisations. One of the main reasons for forming the Alliance was to harness the potential of that unified strength to build an effective, responsive social security system together with Government and other key partners. Tapping into that full potential requires building our member organisations’ capacity to actively participate in, and add value to the activities that achieve the Alliance’s objectives.

Capacity building steps include:

  • Developing and distributing timely and accessibly packaged accurate information on children’s social assistance needs, as well as on the current debates around those issues to member and other children’s sector organisations.
  • Providing opportunities and forums for discussion, debate and consensus building within the children’s sector on key social security issues.
  • Undertaking community mobilisation awareness programmes to keep the children’s sector informed of the debates and latest legal and policy developments.
  • Distributing mass based social security literacy material to target audiences – i.e. members, media, civil society, the public, etc.
  • Supporting member organisations in the development and presentation of submissions and presentations to the children’s sector and to Government.
  • Conducting training of members on social security rights and means of redress.
